We are knitting a Christmas Tree in aid of Help for Heroes from an idea carried out in Bideford, Devon to teach people to knit, make Pompoms and do Bobbin Knitting. They did not expect that so many people would want to take part in the project, to raise money for the village, but the work came in from all over the country and abroad as word spread.
Their Tree in the Picture was 30 feet high!
Having spoken to the Originator Alison Murray and gained her Blessing to copy the idea we decided to try to match or beat their tree.
We, at St John the Baptist Church, Meols, were looking for a Community Project for Christmas and to raise money for Help for Heroes as our Christmas Charity for 2010.
If you would like to knit a piece for the tree we need 5inches by 12 inches in any shade of green, and red or gold pompoms the size of a tennis ball.
Deliver to church centre 10-30a.m. on Thursdays for Bacon Butty
or 2-p.m on Tuesdays, or in the basket at the back of Church any morning or ring 632 2152.
The Tree and other activities will be on show in the Church and the Church Centre from 9am till 7-30pm from Thursday 25th November till Sunday 28th November.
We will have various ways to raise money for Help for Heroes including –
How many Pompoms?
How many pieces of knitting? Etc etc
Donations will also be gratefully received.
If you would like to sponsor a foot of the tree please contact Jackie 632 2152 or Rev Gillian 632 1661
